Taking the year’s first comparatively small direct clash before ‘PadMan‘ Vs ‘Padmaavat‘, this week the competition is between the two distinct films on different story line. Releasing today on 12 January, those two films are Akshat Verma’s black comedy ‘Kaalakaandi‘, Anurag Kashyap’s sports drama ‘Mukkabaaz‘. The duo films are clashing on the same day and are facing issue of screen count. Multiplexes and single screens all over the country are confused as to which film to screen so that they would get most out of it. Also, filmmakers of all these films are skeptical about the Box office collection too. Setting everything aside, the game is now in audience’s hands as they’re the only one who’s gonna decide the fate for these films. So, which movie you plan to go for this week ? Lets find out.
Starting from Anurag Kashyap‘s ‘Mukkabaaz‘, you can choose to watch this film for many reasons. The films’ starcast includes Vineet Singh, Zoya Hussain and Jimmy Shergill with Ravi Kishan in lead roles which is on high on the trailer of the film. Talking about the plot of the film, it is set in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly city which revolves around a passionate young man Shravan Singh (played by Vineet) who wants to become a famous ‘boxer’ to earn respect and name. He fall in love with a high caste, mute girl Sunaina (played by Zoya) who happens to be the niece of city’s politician and head of state boxing federation Bhagwan Das Mishra (played by Jimmy). Bhagwan is known for making or breaking someone’s career. This is when the things get more cozy and interesting. Facing continuous nepotism, religious fanaticism and class struggle, the film is about the never ending battle between a powerful system and a common but courageous man to save the love of his life, Sunaina.

Anurag’s films are the outstanding combination of reality with performance. Ranging from masochism to political satire to wildest love triangle, his films has always been a clear image of the society under the lowest level. So, if you’re a die hard fan of his direction and work, ‘Mukkabaaz‘ is for you to watch this weekend. His skills has been sharped and improved ever since he entered the industry, born in UP’s Gorakhpur, his vision for films reflect his life’s struggles and experience.

Helmed by ‘Delhi Belly‘ (2011) writer Akshat Verma, the film stars Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Oberoi, Sobhita Dhulipala and others in lead roles. The film is a dark comedy and includes profanity. According to film’s official Twitter handle, the film will have the mixture of ‘Hope, Greed, Love and Lust, Every Action Will Have A Reaction‘. Every character in the film is driven by reckless vibe and spreading the dark swag, they take lots of drugs unleashing their wild animals out in the late nights of Mumbai city. Every character in the film seems to be on the unstoppable whacky joyride which is definitely appreciated if not given a thumbs down. Blend with the cleaver conversational adult humor and gags, if you’re looking for fun-time spending, ‘Kaalakaandi‘ would be the pick for you. The film will definitely give you an entertaining vibes with some crazy shits happening in the city. If you have liked ‘Delhi Belly‘, we’re sure that ‘Kaalakaandi‘ won’t disappoint you, accepting the fact the film doesn’t have any chartbusting song like ‘Bhaag Bhaag D.K Bose‘.

Director Akshat has seems to take the vibes and feel of ‘Delhi Belly‘ in the latest ‘Kaalakaandi‘ to try out direction. His efforts and work has to be appreciated being a debutante in the field. After enjoying collecting enough business and dominating the Box office for more than three weeks, Salman Khan‘s ‘Tiger Zinda Hai‘ (2017) would definitely be affected by these two films. And for a break, audience might be looking for something fresh and relaxing to start kick-start the 2018 with films like ‘Kaalakaandi‘. Therefore, it might be the best pick for all those people.
‘Kaalakaandi‘ is a dark comedy produced by Rohit Khattar and Ashi Dua Sara with Cinestaan Film Company. The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Oberoi, Deepak Dobriyal, Isha Talwar, Kunal Roy Kapur, Sobhita Dhulipala and others in lead roles. It is written and directed by Akshat Verma.
It seems are even Bollywood are divided between the two films ‘Mukkabaaz‘ and ‘Kaalakaandi‘. Anurag Kashyap‘s ‘Mukkabaaz‘ seems to be under rated as compared to ‘Kaalakaandi‘ but it must be noted that both the films are on a different level and on a different production team. But ‘Mukkabaaz‘ seems to give a tough competition to the Akshat Verma’s dark comedy. While Aamir Khan is applauding Akshat’s ‘Kaalakaandi‘, Huma Qureshi and other celebrities are also cheering for Anurag’s ‘Mukkabaaz‘. But one thing is sure, the year of 2018 has got really good start in terms of healthy competition of Bollywood movies and we’re just loving it !
