Chinese manufacturer OnePlus recently rocked the smartphone industry all over the world, obviously including India, by unveiling their latest flagship OnePlus 6. While on the other hand, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor tend to stay as low as on the launch strategy and released new flagship Honor 10. The new OnePlus 6 is marketed as “The Speed You Need” whereas, Honor 10 as “Beauty in AI“. On comparing OnePlus 6 and Honor 10 side to side, We’ll know that the price of former device starts at Rs 34,999 while the latter priced at Rs 32,999. However, both the smartphones belong to the bridge-to-premium segment lineup, therefore, here We’ll do a thorough side to side comparison between the OnePlus 6 and Honor 10 :
1. Design, Built and Display
Speaking first about the OnePlus 6, it has a 6.28-inch FHD+ Optic AMOLED Display (2280 x 1080 pixels) with 19:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 5 protection from the front as well as the back side. This time, OnePlus goes for the notch display at the top and gave it a clean transformation to the OnePlus 6. Speaking about the built, as mentioned earlier the smartphone has a Gorilla Glass 5 panel to the front and back which makes it strong but sturdy at the same time. Additionally, it is also a protected by a special water repellent coating between the gap of battery and the screen in order to survive from an accidental drop and water splash.
This time OnePlus has done far better job in terms of hardware and design of the phone. The Chinese manufacturer also keeps the alert slider button in OnePlus 6 similar to it’s predecessor – OnePlus 5T. It comes in two colors – Midnight Black, Mirror Black and Silk White.
Coming to the Honor 10, it features a 5.84-inches FHD+ LCD Display with 2280 x 1080 pixel resolution. Similar to the OnePlus 6, Honor has already placed a full screen almost bezel-less display with a notch at the top. But, the new Honor 10 has a fingerprint sensor to the front leaving much chin to the bottom front of the smartphone. Also, speaking about the design, the smartphone has a shiny aluminum back (Honor called it a Aurora glass design) which makes it look beautiful in hand.
According to Honor, the smartphone has a 86.2 percent screen-to-body ratio making it more immersive experience. The new Honor 10 is available to buy on Flipkart and comes in two colors – Phantom Blue and Midnight Black.
2. Software and Performance
Here we’ll talk about the software and performance of the two smartphones – OnePlus 6 and Honor 10 side by side. OnePlus has really improved their own skin called as ‘OxgyenOS‘ since past few years by taking and applying feedback from the actual users. The improvement in the skin can be seen by the parallel performance and smooth functioning of the device along with the processor.
Speaking of processor, the last flagship of OnePlus has the SND 835 SoC while the new OnePlus 6 has the latest greatest Snapdragon 845 SoC making it more powerful. For those who don’t know, Snapdragon 845 is an Octa-core chipset which is rolled out in 2017. The OnePlus 6 software segment is clean as it is also co-operated by the Android 8.1 Oreo of the box. Apart from that, OnePlus has already confirmed about receiving of Android P to the OnePlus 6 as and when it gets released publicly.
On the other hand, Honor devices has their own customized skin called as ‘EMUI‘ which gives users many useful features and options. Many users like to use these features and options in their daily usage while others only kept it as a under-rated thing. Well, not every manufacturer out there gives you extra features or customizable options. Also, Huawei’s own intelligent AI processor Kirin 970 Octa-core procesor with an independent NPU (Neural Network Processing) for smooth functioning and recognition.
With the help of Kirin 970, it is now even more easy to compute difficult task and operate multi-tasking on your device. Huawei has manufactured the chip in an intelligent way to fill the gap between the hardware and the software in a most advanced manner. Not only in the device, it also helps in the efficient battery usage and camera performance of the new Honor 10.
3. Dual Camera Face-off
Here is where things get interesting. The new OnePlus 6 sports a dual 16MP + 20MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture respectively. It also has EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). The smartphone can record videos up to 4K @ 30/60fps. Unlike the OnePlus 5T, the new OnePlus 6 doesn’t have any specialized telephoto lens in the camera.
Technically, the 16MP is a Sony IMX 519 sensor and while the 20MP is also an Sony IMX 376K sensor. It has standard features like auto-HDR, portrait mode, etc. Also speaking of the camera, the new OnePlus 6 also has a 16MP Sony IMX 371 sensor with EIS for better stabilisation. The selfie camera can record videos up to 1080p resolution.
Coming to the Honor 10, it also has a dual 24MP + 16MP rear camera with f/1.8 wide aperture placed to the top left corner of the smartphone. The camera placement in the Honor 10 is horizontal unlike vertically in the OnePlus 6. Talking further, it has features like Wide Virtual Aperture photo, Pro mode, 3D Panorama, Monochrome, HDR, light painting, time-lapse, slow-mo, etc with PDAF. With the help of a dedicated AI chip and NPU (Neural Network Processing), the camera of Honor 10 can recognize 500+ different scenarios in 22 categories in real-time. The AI Camera helps you recognize various scenes and images and accordingly adjusts the color and produces better results. It also has the AI photography mode for better bokeh mode effect to make you look natural.
Coming to the front snapper, the Honor 10 has a 24MP AI camera with 4-in-1 fusion technology. According to Honor, the front camera has a light sensitive sensor which helps you click vibrant, clear and crisp selfies. Along with that, it also has 3D portrait lighting effect similar to the iPhone X. Front camera of the Honor 10 is capable of recording videos up to 1080p.
4. Overall Verdict and Features
So, apart from the above given features the OnePlus 6 also has Dirac HD and Power sound for better and loud sound quality. Similar to the OnePlus 5T, it also has support of Alert slider including the Haptic vibration motor. The smartphone can be unlocked in different ways along with the fingerprint sensor (placed at the back) and also with Face Unlock. This time OnePlus has also given features like Gestures control similar to the iPhone X, however, it’s not every fluid or user-friendly. With the battery of 3,300mAh along with the Dash Charge technology, OnePlus 6 is an excellent device at this price point. For connectivity and navigation, it also has Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, Glonass, BeiDou and Galileo. It has all the standard sensors embedded in the OnePlus 6. With the Snapdragon 845 chipset, OnePlus 6 is really “The Speed You Need” flagship smartphone.
The new Honor 10 has a slightly bigger battery of 3,400mAh capacity which also has Honor Fast Charge technology. According to Honor, the battery of Honor 10 can be charge to 50% in just 25 minutes. As mentioned earlier, the smartphone has a NPU technology with the help of which it gives you reduce background noise and increase the volume. With the Full View Display from Honor, the smartphone also has a Ultrasonic Under Glass fingerprint sensor which helps you to unlock the device even with wet fingers. The new Honor 10 also has all the key sensors like fingerprint, digital compass, gravity sensor, gyroscope, etc. Runs on the customized EMUI skin of Honor, it comes in only one variant 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage. This way, Honor 10 is a “Beauty in AI” with the Kirin 970 processor and stylish looks and design.
